What We're Working On! Collaboration Sneak Peak!!

I am so excited to finally unveil the secret project that TheBroken Plate and I have been working on for the past few months. I have always loved Juliet's eye for pattern, and knack for finding the perfect vintage plates, and when the idea to marry her recycled china with my design came up, we both hustled to make it happen.

Three of these necklaces will be available at our shared booth (#113) at Crafty Bastards this weekend. If we don't sell out, they will be available in both of our Etsy shops.

Since we are both passionate about our Boxers, we will be donating $20 from each sale of these pieces to Adot a Boxer Rescue, an all-volunteer charitable organization formed to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home unwanted and abandoned boxer dogs within the northeast United States.

Big Style for Little People!

Locally owned and operated website UrbanBabyRunway.com is expanding and bringing it's sense of style from the vast interwebs to the streets of Baltimore. Opening in Hampden Sept. 17th, Urban Baby is the brick and mortar children's store owned by Baltimore mama Cara Shrock. The website has been operating since 2006 shortly after Cara's son turned 1. She decided to open the webstore first as a way of starting a business and continue to stay at home with her child.
"I wasn't willing to sacrifice some of the parenting choices I would have had to in order to run a store." Since her son started school full time this fall she has had more time to dedicate to running and expanding the business.
"I figured it was now or never. Plus, I have really been itching to get out of the house. Working from home for the last 4 years and mothering in the spare time around that, I was starting to feel a bit isolated. My mind needed more stimulation and new challenges. And so far this has been quite a challenge!"

The lines and designers Urban Baby carries are all carefully chosen by Cara, many are local or were started by other stay at home mom's. The collections are definitely on the edgier side of fashion for kids and appeal to urban hip parents.
"I've tried to focus on small lines that aren't oversaturing the online market. I've gotten to know most of the companies I work with pretty well. Almost all of them are moms just like me so I like knowing my money (and my customers' money) is going to support another family."
Knuckleheads, one of Cara's favorite brands for boys, features fedora's for infants, skateboard inspired onesies, and button down shirts with a Rockabilly flavor.
"They are a bit bigger than most of the brands I carry but the quality is good, always stylish season after season and it's a reputable brand customers know. Having a strong, well known brand balances out the smaller lines. A brand like Knuckleheads draws in the customers which gives me an opportunity to introduce lines they may not have heard of otherwise."

The Sprout has decided he is a many of man hats, and while this is great coverage for his noggin, his style choices aren't always shall we say- stylin'? Enter Born To Love Clothing! Stylish infant and toddler fedoras and skate visor beanies! What I love best is that the line was started by a stay at home Mom, with help from a creative Dad, and all inspired by their son! Resulting in a hip entrepreneurial family business! My favorites are the black fedora and tan argyle visor. It's back to school time, or in my case it's the end of summer time pool parties, beach trips and park visits with The Sprout. Since he isn't starting school just yet, but I do feel the need to "go back to" something, I figured it was time to re-visit the blog after my summer hiatus. I am excited for fall shows such as Crafty Bastards on Oct. 3rd, where I will be sharing space with super "craft-star" The Broken Plate. We have a top-secret plan and collaboration in the works, that you won't want to miss. Stay tuned! Now where are those pencils I was sharpening....

Spring Shows!!!

So far the Spring show schedule is shaping up nicely! First up is Squidfire's ArtMart, now in Fells Point Square on May 8th. I will be reuniting with this chickadee who is flying North to share a booth! Next on the list is Handmade Mart on May 23rd, where I will be heading South to Silver Spring to share a booth with my partner in craft again! And then in June I'll be manning the booth solo at Pile of Craft in good old Charm City. Hope to see you at one of these fabulous shows!!

No, I'm not going anywhere specific, but I am going to be taking a break from blogging for a while. I realize I never summed up my experience at ACC, mainly because it has take me some time to process, and I just haven't had time to sit down and write about it. The main thing I did learn was a good lesson about time investment and what I value. I've spent the last few weeks after ACC kicking myself saying "was that worth it?" I spent an enormous amount of time, energy, and money to make new work for the show, and my sales were pretty lackluster. I made myself sick with sleep deprivation worrying about making enough "quality" work, took time away from The Sprout, and almost forced my husband to divorce me because I was in such a wound up state. Then I spent 5 full days away from my new little family, relied on my inlaws to come care for The Sprout, let my home fall into a disaster zone, while I stood around answering the same question over and over at ACC. That question being "what is AltCraft-" but that is a whole other can of worms that I just don't have the energy to open right now. But I digress. Back to what I learned. I learned that I can't do it all even though I want to, and sometimes need to. I learned that my full time job is not juggling being a mama AND an artist, but being a mama THEN an artist. SO that being said, I plan on taking a break from trying to squeeze it all in- etsy, twitter, FB and blogging, it just takes up too much of my time and attention from The Sprout. I also realized that I'm not really saying anything new or different on this blog, it all is just a repeat of what I'm posting on my fan page. So I maybe quite in here for a while. But you can find me and news snippets on the fan page and periodically on twitter (@dandelionblu). Till then thanks for giving me the space and time to rest, rejuvenate, and be a better mama!

While everyone around me is snowed in and going stir crazy, it's just like any ordinary day around here- except we had to dig tunnels for the dogs to go outside, but that's another story. I don't get snow days, my boss is a real task master. When referring to the boss, there are 2 of us. But only one of us gets to take 2 naps a day and has a 7:30 bedtime. The other boss has a serious deadline at the end of the month and is really starting to panic about the amount of work she needs to complete before Feb. 25th. So just a heads up, the blog posting may take a little vacation till March. But in the meanwhile here is another sneak peak of things to come....

Perfect for your Valentine! Transparent and opaque enamels on copper. The heart "drawing" is made from inlaying fine silver wires and then filling with blood red transparent enamel, on an opaque white background. The enameled piece is appx. 2 1/2 inches in diameter, and hangs by both sides on a gun metal chain. The necklace is 16 inches long and sits just below the collar bones in a choker style. This is a one of a kind piece created by sifting ground glass in layers and firing in a kiln at 1500 degrees for each color. While durable, this is glass on metal, so please handle with love! 2009 Graffiti Cocktail Rings! These fun rings will soon be discontinued and replaced with rings set in sterling. Don't miss your chance to snatch up one of these extremely affordable, one of a kind pieces of wearable art! High fire opaque enamels on copper. The copper disc is hammered to a concave cup shape before enameling. The colors are layered creating the "graffiti" effect. Due to the nature of this enameling process, no two pieces are alike. Please allow for subtle (but exciting!) variations. Enameling is a process of fusing powdered glass onto metal at 1500 degrees. While durable, please handle with care and love as your piece is comprised of glass on metal. Chipping can occur to the glass if not careful. Best suggestion is to wear as a cocktail ring or for special occasion wear- not recommended for everyday wear. The enameled disc is appx. 3/4" in diameter. The edges are polished to a copper shine, and a piece of polish cloth is included. The ring shank is adjustable silver plate, one size fits most.

Cara Ober: Glittering Generalities

Baltimore artist, Cara Ober's solo show "Glittering Generalities" opens Jan. 7th at Randall Scott Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. The artist's reception is Thursday Jan. 7th 6pm-8pm.

"Cara Ober layers drawing, painting, and printmaking into mixed media works that reinterpret sentimental imagery. Working in series, Ober combines culturally mediated imagery from children’s schoolbooks, home décor, historical texts, and greeting cards to explore notions of authenticity, appropriation, personal identity, and vocabulary.

Ober’s narrative works utilize specific phrases and fonts to suggest multiple voices, perspectives, and time periods. Rather than illustrating the text, the images create discord, layering metaphorical and nonsensical outcomes over personal notation. These works reveals the inadequacy of words in expressing the complexity of experience, and exploit the multiple meanings within one simple phrase, exposing the gap between meaning and language. Painterly gesture alternately reveals and conceals Ober’s imagery, uniting disparate elements into a palimpsest where memory and commentary merge into a visual diary."

A New Year, A New Dandelion!

Happy New Year Everyone! 2009 brought A Lot of changes for this here Dandelion. The biggest being of course was the debut of The Sprout! Now, I am not one to make resolutions, I feel like it's silly to try to enact a huge list of changes all on one day. So I prefer to think of them as goals for the new year. I try to reflect on the past year and then envision how I would like the next year to unfold, and what I can do to help it along. Obvioulsy I have several personal goals that involve The Sprout, and those also affect my little business here too. How I allocate my time is on the top of the list. So here are my goals for Dandelion Blu's 2010:

1. Be a more consistent blogger, promoter on facebook, etsy and twitter.
2. Strive to update my shop more frequently.
3. Keep better records of sales, time spent, where the money is going, etc.
4. Stream line my product line.
5. Update my wholesale catalog.

1. I am recovering wedding and event photographer. I owned my business for 5 "seasons," and it almost killed me.

2. Although I am professional photographer, I rarely have a camera on me, and when somebody says "we should get a picture of that" everybody turns to me expectantly...

3. I have several rescued animals, and lost dogs seem to find me everywhere. My dream is to one day have a sanctuary where packs of homeless dogs can run and be guaranteed a home for life.

4. On the topic of animals, my other dream is to one day have enough space for a goat, a pig, and free range chickens (not for eating.)

5. On the topic of chickens, I have seen a chicken "running around with it's head cut off." Growing up my dad made an incubator and thought it would be educational for us to see chicks hatch. Pretty soon we had a huge flock and well, some became dinner.

6. I love ketchup. I would put it on pretty much anything if it was socially acceptable. I consider french fries to be just a vehicle for the ketchup.

7. I am directly related to Edwin P. Hubbell, the scientist who discovered the "Big Bang Theory," and for whom the Hubble Space Telescope is named for. When it was launched, my family got to go to Florida to see it.

8. Halloween is my favorite "holiday." I eat up all those ghost story shows, and consider October the best month for t.v. watching.

9. I can't wait till my boy is old enough for trick or treating, I want to make his costumes- yeah I'll be "that" mom, and he's going to be "that kid in the homemade costume."

10. My Dad and I both think the house I grew up in was haunted. Also, every year my friend and I go on a ghost tour. We've exhausted all the ones in the area. I believe.

11. My guilty pleasure is watching "90210" re-runs on the Soap channel.

12. Speaking of "90210," when I was in college at UMBC I got a job at Planet Hollywood in the harbor. I was working at the opening and Luke Perry (aka Dylan McKay) was there. I was really disappointed in how short he was...

13. I do not sing in public. Ever. Not even Happy Birthday. I've been caught lip syncing it!

14. I never held a little baby till I had my own.

15. I am not a natural red head- gasp! I've been dyeing my hair so long I am not sure what color it is naturally.

16. My Grandmother is a professional clown named Petunia. She went to Klown Kollege and everything!

17. My Grandmother also used to have a champagne pink Cadillac and she used to have her hair dyed to match it.

18. I love to vacuum, my Dyson Animal is one of my favorite possessions. I also have a robotic vacuum that I named Rosie. I've been known to just start vacuuming at friends houses.

19. I actually really like my Mother in law.

20. Mango is my favorite flavor, gardenia is my favorite smell, baby sneezes are my favorite sound, fall is my favorite time of year, shades of blue/green are my favorite color, and near the ocean with my husband, baby and dogs, is my favorite place to be.

Just dropping in on the blogosphere to let you all know I am still here and still with child! My midwife says any day now in the next 2.5 weeks- but I feel (and hope!) sooner. We took this picture a couple of weeks ago so the belly is even more enormous! Hopefully the next time I post will be pictures of the sprout!

Here are a few pictures of "Sprouts" new room! It's still a work in progress but it's getting there. Only about 2 months ago it was uninhabitable. Crumbling plaster, shag carpeting, mustard yellow walls- it was frightening. Now it's almost ready, only 4 weeks to go!

My take on the bird mobile from the Spool blog.

My grandfather built the little shelves for me when I was a baby.

We had to stain the floors when we ripped up the carpets and realized that the previous owners had only finished the floor AROUND the carpet.
I painted all the little animals, and the prints are actually Martha Stewart alphabet cards that I framed.

The mobile was made for me and the sprout by the littlest bean and the sock monkey was made by Jenny Jen 42.

Sorry to be so lax with the blog this week, but with the finishing up of our kitchen renovation and just general "sprout" preparation, I've been pretty wiped out. But here is a treat! Today we had our last ultrasound and the sprout was in such a good position that the gave us a 3D peak! Pretty awesome huh?

So much info, so much craftiness, and so much support. It was really nice to be part of such a great event. From the workshops and speakers, to the hands on activities, to the screening of Handmade Nation, I don't know how anybody could leave and not be truly inspired. I only have 3 regrets- I didn't take enough pictures, I didn't have the energy to stay the entire weekend, and given the "state" I am in, I can't dive head first in to all the new ideas I have. Sigh. My plans will have to wait a bit till the little sprout is here and settled in. But hey, I have to sort of think of it as THE ULTIMATE CRAFT PROJECT, right? My workshop went well, I hope I was able to help out some of the eager crafters with their photo questions. I was just flattered to be included!

The Dandelion has once again figured out how to be a little more gentler on the environment, your pocket and my sanity! Introducing the new Bamboo Dandelion necklaces! I had my original drawing laser etched on to bamboo, and then created these pendants. The bamboo is sustainably grown, naturally anti-microbial, and I hand finish these with no toxic chemicals. They come strung on a 16" oxidized sterling silver snake chain. Just listed in the shop today!

Dandelion Blu has some new items for your wearing pleasure! A more budget and recession friendly option for owning a Dandelion Blu piece, these lovelies are only $22! I had my original hand drawing (you may recognize this as my logo- it's everywhere!) laser etched into this fresh translucent yellow acrylic. The etching does not go all the way through so the image appears trapped in the acrylic. I added a little black to a few for added contrast, and are offering both versions in the shop! Very light weight and fun for spring and summer. Keep your eye out for another surprise coming very soon!

Dandelion Blu has several appearances coming up! First, is to promote handmade weddings with fellow B.E.S.T members. We will have a table at the American Visionary Art Museum's Bridal Happy Hour on Thursday April 2nd, 5-7pm. It is a great opportunity for brides and grooms-to-be to check out some of the areas top vendors in the bridal industry. Come taste cake, sip wine, check out linens and photographers- and come see us for all your handmade jewelry, invites, luxurious pampering products, and bridal party gifts. It's a free event with lot's of information, samples and giveaways. And you get to meet prospective vendors and narrow down that wedding to do list. In a previous life I showed at the happy hour as a photographer- it was always my favorite wedding related event to do. 1. If I had to eat only one food for the rest of my life I would choose ... wait for it ... peanut butter. The recent salmonella scare had me in a panic.
2. I married a man I met in 7th grade Orchestra class. We both played the violin.
3. I have two yappy smalldogs, Friday and Peppy, and I love them more than life itself. Their pomeranian antics entertain me constantly.
4. I have never been able to choose between art making and writing. So I do both at the same time. I'm not sure how efficient this is.
5. I can't touch my toes.
6. For some reason, I receive People Magazine in the mail each week addressed to me, the Spanish Langauge Version, which I can't read.
7. I am not a natural blonde. Hard to believe, I know.
8. I am addicted to coffee. Hot in the winter and cold in the summer.
9. I do not like dessert. Salt = Yes. Sugar = No.
10. I have approximately 10 different jobs that actually pay me. But not very much.
11. I live in a house that is 100 years old and my husband is fixing it up one room at a time. I use this as an excuse to not clean. Ever.
12. I bite my fingernails like it is going out of style. I really enjoy it. I know it is gross.
13. I am still close with my best friends from elementary school and middle school. I am wealthy in friendships. I have several good friends in my immediate Baltimore area as well.
14. I adore body products that smell like mint or nuts. I detest body products that smell like fruits or flowers. Is coconut a fruit or a nut? I put it in the nut category, unless it is combined with a Pineapple smell, which ruins it for me.
15. I always assume everyone I meet is gay. This sometimes gets me into trouble.
16. I love Woody Allen. I love his movies. I love him. I really love him. I am watching 'Manhattan' right now. It is my favorite one.
17. I refuse to shop at Wal-mart. I will not step foot inside. I get panic attacks and think they (the wal-mart people) are evil. Seriously. I don't understand why anyone goes there. There are some things more important than saving money. Yes, there is a tirade here.
18. I am an pretty effing good cook. I never use recipes although reading glossy cooking magazines is one of my guilty pleasures.
19. I am politically involved and interested. I will argue with anyone at any time. Gay marriage = fairness. Conservatives need to learn that time does not march backwards.

Quilt for the Sprout!

I know it's not jewelry, but it is handmade by me! I just finished up the is quilt this weekend for the sprout.
I used some left over fabrics from some other projects, and the solid yellow squares are actually from my own baby blanket- hence the wear and transparency!
Definitely not as fantastic as the quilts I saw at the ACC this past weekend, but it's pretty good for my first try at quilting. The batting is bamboo, so it is a thinner quilt, but I liked that the bamboo is hypoallergenic and antibacterial- plus it "adjusts" to the body temperature. Bamboo is an awesome fiber, I am now on the lookout for more as designers and manufacturers are realizing how versatile and sustainable bamboo is.

This is the back, a nice snuggly fleece. Since we won't know the sprouts gender till he/she makes their arrival, I went with a more "gender neutral" pallet. Although, I am not a big believer in colors actually having a gender preference- but for some reason it really seems to matter to others. Why is pink a "girl color?" When you stop to think about it, it's kind of weird right? Hope everybody enjoys their snow day!

This show is like the Oscar's of fine craft. Plus they have a returning section called AltCraft which showcases up and coming artists with a more indie flair. Please go and support B.E.S.T members Sweet Pepita and Tigerlilly Shop. And local artist and friend of B.E.S.T, Imogene will be showing as well. On Sunday The Broken Plate will be giving a demo on her process. And I'll be there on Friday helping out with the Hello Craft booth- whew! So much to see and do!

I am so glad I read our B.E.S.T blog this morning! Sweet Pepita had posted about this great website, Little House in the Suburbs, where you can download this free spring planting guide. Just this weekend I was wondering if it was too early to start my seeds indoors. If you were a reader last year you'll remember I was very proud of my little sprouts. So I eagerly downloaded my copy and filled in the dates, to find out I have to start my tomatoes and peppers now!!! Here is an excerpt:

Once you establish the frost-free date for your area, this planner will tell you each week what seeds can be started, what can be planted out, and what can be direct sowed from now through the end of the spring planting season. (Italics are used to indicate it's your last chance to get that particular vegetable going.) Then, in the blanks below, you can record what you decided to plant, varieties, notes, what-have-you.

Apparently I should have started spinach indoors a couple of weeks ago and be ready to plant outside soon. No wonder it didn't do so well last year. Here's to spring, warm sunshine, dirt and growing goodies!

I am finally done with my wholesale catalog! Wheee! Here is a sneak peak at the first page! The idea is to pick a local Baltimore place and then find etsy items you would wear or use when you go to the place. My pick is Charm City Yoga's Yoga Birth workshop which starts tonight. If you can't make this fabulous workshop, and you are yoga lovin' baby maker, then head to their prenatal yoga class on Sundays at 4:30.

Oh my... where did the week go?? I've been busy in the studio making some new work and putting the final touches on my wholesale catalog. Here are a few sneak peeks:

Graffiti Rounds. Enamel on copper. New surgical steel kidney shaped wires. I love these because the enamel piece dangles lower and has more movement.

M.I.A. Showed me up!

I don't need to discuss that crazy outfit- (was it some sort of maternity bikini? ladybug inspired?) but we do need to discuss just how M.I.A. rocked it at the Grammy's last night. Not only is she 9 months pregnant- last night was her DUE DATE. And she was on stage wiggling around and performing. I feel like a total loser now for all the complaining I do, and I'm only 4.5 months! I thought she was going to jiggle that baby out right on stage with Jay-Z! At first I was like "she must be like 25, ahhh, of course she can still shake it at 9 months. " Being a bit older I took that as my comfort for why I am not out shaking my thing or even staying up past 9:30- but wait... she's 31, gasp! Mr. Dandelion says she's my competition now and I better suck it up and get to work. Friends, I think I got whipped last last night... now where is my giant maternity pillow, I need a nap... :)

Be My Valentine!

Yesterday when chatting with my partner in craft this chickadee, I realized I hadn't made anything that was Valentine's Day related. Last year I had the "I Gave You my Heart" anatomically correct metal heart pendants. The year before I had the copper and paper hearts, and I can't remember back to the year before that. So I hoped down to the studio and whipped out this little series just for kicks. I may be a little late, considering it is Feb. 3rd already, but who can resist red and pink cherry blossoms and lace? I even attempted some "romance" themed photography! These lovelies are posted in the shop today, order by Feb. 11th to ensure delivery.

Orla Kiely has designed a home goods collection for Target! I seem to be one of the last to know, what with all the buzz on design blogs, but I am still excited! Orla Kiely is one of my favorite designers, I first happened upon her bags through a friend and then was delighted when my favorite Baltimore boutique Doubledutch started carrying her. I am now a proud owner of 2 bags, 1 wallet and 1 umbrella- all in her signature stem pattern. 2 years ago while in London, I got the chance to visit her flagship shop in Covent Garden. It was heaven. Everything was careful considered and designed, right down to her receipts which printed out with her stem pattern. Sigh. Her work isn't cheap, bags are $180 and up, but in my opinion that laminated fabric is rugged and well worth the investment. So I was really curious about her line for Target, while not in my favorite stem patterns, the pears are very cute, and all the items still have that "Orla" feel to them. The line hit the stores yesterday, I hoping to swing by today and check it out.

Blog In for CPSIA Action

Things could change dramatically for crafters, small business owners, independent children's clothing and toy makers, if the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) goes into effect on February 10th, 2009. This act came about as a result of the atrocious lack of safety standards in the production of children's toys and clothing from large over-seas manufacturers- think of all those recalls of goods produced in China last year. What it requires is that all makers of products intended for children under 12 be required to submit these products to third party testing. This means every product for children under 12- clothing, toys, diapers and even books. While I am all for stricter product testing for items that are coming from overseas where they seem to have serious lack of concern for what goes into their goods- this act will have a tremendous impact on many, many small business that are already creating safe products. The testing fees will be so high they will literally put small operations out of business. For example, my fellow BEST member Sweet Pepita makes gorgeous baby tees and dresses from recycled t-shirts. So far there is confusion over if the act will cover one of a kind items such as Sweet Pepita t's. If it does, Sweet Pepita will be out of business. How can she afford to have each and every t-shirt she makes tested for safety standards??? Not to mention that the tests cost thousands of dollars, so even having one prototype tested is cost prohibitive for a small business. AND the testing sites are all over seas. HMMMM, aren't we already concerned about China's lackadaisical concern with product safety, and we are now going to trust their testing facilities?? This quote is from the site Boing Boing-
"In 2007, large toy manufacturers who outsource their production to China and other developing countries violated the public's trust. They were selling toys with dangerously high lead content, toys with unsafe small part, toys with improperly secured and easily swallowed small magnets, and toys made from chemicals that made kids sick. Almost every problem toy in 2007 was made in China."

Congress finally woke up to the fact that the Consumer Product Safety Commission lacked the staffing and regulation to prevent the importation of dangerous toys from overseas. In August 2008 they passed the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) to deal with this issue. Among other things, the CPSIA bans lead and phthalates in toys, mandates third-party testing and certification for all toys and requires toy makers to permanently label each toy with a date and batch number. Sounds good right??? It maybe easy for large toy and children's product manufacturers to comply, they make items in batches of thousands and will only have to pay for one prototype of each product to be tested- this cost will be incremental to their businesses. But for those like Sweet Pepita, makers of safe, high quality, small batch or one of a kind children's items, made in the USA, the outlook is bleak. There has to be some sort of compromise here.

You may be wondering to yourself, "why do you care so much, you make jewelry for adults- your business won't be affected." Well here is why- remember back near the first of the year when I said that there were some big surprises ahead for 2009??? Well that surprise is that Mr. Dandelion and I are expecting a "sprout" come July! As I prepare and delve deep into the world of children's products, a place I have really not visited before, I find myself drawn to handmade items even more. I don't want to fill up my house with cheap, plastic, loud, Disney character laden toys and goods that will end up in the landfill for decades after my child has lost interest. I want the availability to choose items that are handmade, sustainable, or from recycled materials, over mass produced junk from China. I want to support small businesses, artists and stay at home parents who are making a living off creating children's goods with care and quality. I have to say mega-stores like "Babies R' Us" and "Buy, Buy, Baby" scare the hell out of me- stacks and stacks of plastic, garish, bleeping and blaring, flashing and vibrating STUFF, the industry is trying to convince me that sprout needs- it's enough to cause a seizure with all that madness. If the CPSIA is passed as it stands, we will loose a lot of choice in products for our children. Gone will be heirloom quality handmade baby quilts, one of kind clothing, small batch wooden toys. Children's consignment shops will have to prove that each of the products in their stores meet the stringent standards. I have already given Sweet Pepita several of mine and my husband's old t-shirts that we've kept out of sentimentality, to be made into clothing for the sprout. These are items we will keep forever, along with any baby sweaters this chickadee cares to knit for us (hint, hint). If this passes our kids will all be wearing the same damn thing from Walmart, and playing with the same obnoxious plastic toys. We'll be hauling our kids around in the same exact carriers, with the same diaper bags, singing the same ridiculous Disney tune from the latest must have DVD. Hell, we might as well all just put on our Mickey ears now! This my friends is a sad, sad future.
